(Un)forbidden City Collection is an important innovative project created in collaboration with 8 Beijing architects and industrial designers. A cultural exchange exploring the potential of Chinese product design, the designers were asked to design a tray:

Trick and Treat Tray, designed by Gary Chang of Edge Design Institute Ltd, 2012, is a multi-purpose container and tray. It is designed to fit into every environment of our daily lives. Trick and Treat is constructed with a simple sheet of stainless steel that is cut and folded around a melamine box.

Gary Chang envisions Trick and Treat being used to hold fruit or flowers in the living room; in the dining room for bread, salt and pepper or sushi; in the kitchen it may hold cutlery; in the bathroom to hold tissue, in the study for stationery, and in the bedroom for candles.

“By a simple twist, its looks changes, its function shifts, it does not look like anything, hence it may be many things. Boundaries are blurred, definitions redefined, surfaces maximized, resources optimized”, explains the designer.
