(Un)forbidden City Collection is an important innovative project created in collaboration with 8 Beijing architects and industrial designers. A cultural exchange exploring the potential of Chinese product design, the designers were asked to design a tray:

Jane Tray, designed by Liu Jia Kun of Jiakun Architects, 2012, is designed with golden anodized aluminum bars of equal size, poetically resembling an ancient Chinese writing material used before the invention of paper. The material’s Chinese name is pronounced like Jane in English, hence the name of the project.

Jane Tray may be partially rolled to present sushi, fruit or hors d’oeuvres. Jane Tray may also be used flat for serving, in ancient Chinese tradition, or as a striking centerpiece.
